PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

As report cards are sent home today, we encourage you to take time to review all grades and comments with your child(ren). These reports provide a helpful snapshot of academic progress and student behavior, and they can serve as a starting point for meaningful conversations at home. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to your child(ren)’s teacher(s). Our teachers are always willing to provide additional context, share insights, and offer suggestions to support continued growth.

This time of year also brings New York State assessments, which have long been a part of the educational landscape. While no single assessment can fully capture a child’s abilities, these tools do provide educators with valuable information about student progress, curriculum effectiveness, and instructional practices. Just as importantly, they offer students an opportunity to practice giving their best effort (an essential habit that will serve them well not only in school, but throughout their lives).

It is also important to remember that beyond grades, the behaviors, habits, and skills our students demonstrate each day (such as responsibility, perseverance, kindness, and effort) are what truly shape future opportunities. As a school community, we remain committed to helping every student develop these qualities so they are prepared for success both in and out of the classroom.

With the third quarter now behind us, the fourth quarter is underway. The “home stretch” of the school year, along with the arrival of warmer weather, can sometimes bring distractions. It is important that we work together (students, families, and staff) to stay focused and finish the year strong. Often, this begins with simple but impactful habits: getting adequate sleep each night, maintaining consistent and healthy eating routines, and coming to school prepared and dressed appropriately for the day.

Finally, I would like to remind our community that, in accordance with our district safety plan, we will be conducting a series of safety drills in the coming weeks. As always, these drills are carried out in a thoughtful, age-appropriate manner, with the goal of ensuring that our students and staff are prepared while maintaining a calm and supportive environment.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support in making Sharon Springs a safe, caring, and focused learning community.

Principal Yorke
