SSCS grade 2 and 3 students had a sparkling day at the Herkimer Diamond Mines on October 20! Students enjoyed exploring, digging, and searching for their very own Herkimer Diamonds. This field trip provided a unique opportunity to explore ground surface mines and chip away rock with a hammer to search for and keep the Herkimer Diamond quartz crystals hiding inside. These crystals are rare and believed to be 500 million-year-old. It was a fun-filled day of hands-on learning, discovery, and making memories outside the classroom!
