Today we feature SSCS senior Fayth Farrisi, a student in the Early Childhood Education program at the BOCES Career and Technical Education Center – Schoharie Campus. After nearly two years in this program Farrisi plans on continuing her education at SUNY-Cobleskill in the fall with aspirations of a career as an elementary school teacher.

During his BOCES training she has worked with faculty and students in a Schoharie Elementary classroom, as well as Donna Baker’s second grade classroom in Sharon Springs. She continues to build skills as an educator that highlight the values of compassion, communication and collaboration with other educators.

“BOCES gives you a lot of opportunities to gain experience before you get to college or go to work,” Farrisi said. “It’s amazing how much I have been able to do before I even graduate high school.”

Early Childhood Education is offered to high school juniors and seniors in Schoharie and on the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Albany Campus. Students learn the basics of child development and build a solid foundation in classroom arrangement, management and curriculum development for infants/toddlers/preschoolers and young children.

“I’ve had a lot of hands-on experience at BOCES that I couldn’t get anywhere else,” Farrisi said. “I’ve been able to create and carry out an actual lesson plan and I’ve had experience helping the teachers with their lesson plans and student work.”

Farrisi’s teacher, Jennifer Quackenbush, said Farrisi is charting a path to future success as an educator.

“Over the past two years, Fayth has shown a genuine talent for working with children, building strong connections and communicating effectively—qualities that will support her continued growth and future success,” she said.

Farrisi has always wanted to be a teacher and today she is fulfilling that dream. “I enjoy working with kids and this is just what I know that I want to do.”
