PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
As we reach October 31st, we mark the end of the first marking period: a natural checkpoint in our academic year. This is a wonderful time for students, families, and teachers to take stock of progress, reflect on successes, and make small but meaningful adjustments moving forward. Whether your child is thriving or finding a few bumps in the road, the end of a marking period is an opportunity to build (or rebuild) strong habits that support long-term success.
1. Reinforcing Positive Habits
For many students, the routines that lead to success: consistent note-taking, reviewing lessons each night, and asking questions in class, are already in motion. For others, this is the perfect moment to start fresh. Encourage your child to reach out to individual teachers for clarification or feedback. Simple acts like reviewing notes nightly or organizing materials for the week ahead can make a big difference.
2. The Importance of Healthy Balance
Academic growth goes hand-in-hand with good health. Getting a full night’s sleep, eating a balanced diet, and taking breaks from screens are all key to maintaining focus and energy. When students are rested and nourished, they learn and retain information more effectively, and they’re happier in the process.
3. Looking Ahead: Parent-Teacher Conferences
Strong communication between home and school is one of the best ways to support students. Our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for:
- Tuesday, November 25th: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, November 26th: Half-Day Conferences, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
We encourage all parents and guardians to attend. These meetings are a great opportunity to celebrate student progress, discuss areas for growth, and strengthen the partnership that makes SSCS such a special learning community.
4. Gratitude and Partnership
Thank you for the time, care, and encouragement you provide every day. Your partnership helps our students grow not only as learners but also as kind, resilient young people who contribute positively to our school community. Together, we’re helping each child move forward with confidence and purpose.

COLD WEATHER REMINDER
As the temperatures drop, please be sure that elementary students come to school with proper outerwear for recess: coats, hats, and gloves are important for outdoor play. If your family is in need of cold-weather clothing, please reach out confidentially to Mrs. Keaney at mkeaney@sharonsprings.org or by calling the school. We’re happy to help.
UNDERSTANDING BULLYING AND BUILDING RESILIENCE
According to NYSED, bullying is defined as repeated, intentional behavior (verbal, physical, or social)  that causes physical or emotional harm to another person and involves an imbalance of power. SSCS takes all reports of bullying seriously and responds promptly to protect and support our students.
At the same time, we also want to teach the value of resilience; the ability to recover, adapt, and grow stronger through challenges. We want every student to feel empowered, not powerless; to advocate for themselves respectfully, to seek help when needed, and to remember that one difficult moment or hurtful comment does not define them.
Together, by practicing safety, showing kindness, and nurturing resilience, we continue to make Sharon Springs Central School a place where every student feels secure, respected, and valued.
