Principal’s Message

The end of the first quarter of school is fast approaching. I encourage everyone to use the tools you have available (i.e., Schoology, email, and/or just talking/meeting) to connect with teachers. We want everyone to be successful – help us support each student in becoming the best version of themselves!

Student Focus

Dear Families,

This week our school community focused on the character strength of integrity. Integrity means you are honest and speak the truth. You present yourself genuinely and sincerely.

Integrity is doing the right thing when nobody is watching. People with integrity practice what they preach and maintain a consistent pattern of behavior aligned with their values. They have the courage not to follow the crowd if it means going against their beliefs. Integrity is closely aligned with the terms of honesty and authenticity. People with integrity tell the truth and have alignment in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Integrity is vital to individual growth. It is correlated with a multitude of psychological well-being measures. Harmony in your feelings, thoughts, and actions makes you better able to personally grow and achieve goals. Authenticity and a lack of pretense make you more likable and trusted by others, meaning your relationships will benefit.

Please discuss with your child integrity: in-person, online, and when no one  is looking. Doing and sayings the right thing because it’s the right thing is the cornerstone of positive relationships.

Have a wonderful week!

SADD Celebrating Red Ribbon Week

SADD is celebrating Red Ribbon Week, which is a national campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of using and abusing tobacco, alcohol and drugs.  As is our tradition at SSCS, we have a spirit week and culminate it with a dance for students in grades 6-12.  This year, our dance will be a Halloween one with costumes encouraged, but not required.

Elementary students are encouraged to participate in our Red Ribbon Spirit Week, too.  All students who dress up will be entered into a drawing for a daily prize.  Middle and High School students will be encouraged to sign the banner pledging to stay tobacco, alcohol and drug free during their lunches and will also be entered into a drawing for a daily prize.

School Make-Up/Retake Picture Day

Make-up and re-take pictures will be on Friday, November 3rd from 7:00-10:00 AM. Any student or staff member who did not have their picture taken in September needs to have their picture taken for the yearbook.

For Kindergarten – 5th grades please contact your child’s teacher to let them know that your child would like their picture taken. For grades 6th – 12th, students need to sign up for a period with Ms. Freeman in Room 201 or can be reached at mfreeman@sharonsprings.org.

Emergency Dismissal Plans

Emergency Dismissal Forms & Demographic Forms were sent home with students this week. Please complete these forms and return to your child’s homeroom teacher or the Main Office as soon as possible to ensure information is up-to-date.

In the event of the School District declaring an emergency dismissal, the school district will follow the parent/guardian’s instructions on the early emergency dismissal notification forms on file.

If you have a cell phone number on file with the district, you will receive a text notification in the event of an early/emergency dismissal.

Will You Help Feed the Candy Monster?

  • There is a CANDY MONSTER roaming the halls of Sharon Springs Central School that feeds on Candy (and possibly children, we aren’t too sure yet)!
  • You can find it in new locations throughout the building between October 2-October 27!
  • We are looking for donations of candy to help with our Trunk or Treat Event on Halloween from 5-7!
  • All donations can be placed inside the Monster’s Belly or left at the front desk.
  • We want to make sure we have enough candy for all of the little ghouls, goblins, superheroes, monsters and more who come to trunk or treat so any donations would be greatly appreciated!
  • The Sharon Springs PTO & After School Program Thank You in Advance for your continued support to our school and our community!
