
SSCS held its 8th Grade Graduation and Awards Ceremony on June 26 honoring students for achievement in academics, attendance, leadership and citizenship.

PRESENTATION OF THE 8th GRADE CANE
Each year the 8th grade class chooses class colors. These colors become ribbons that are placed on the cane. The Class of 2030 has chosen black and white as their class colors. Those ribbons have been placed on the cane. The Class of 2030 is the 70th class to follow this tradition. These ribbons represent the high standards we set at SSCS and each class follows. The cane is presented by the 8th grader with the highest average to the 7th grader with the highest average. This year there was a tie among 7th graders.

ATTENDANCE AWARD
Commendable Attendance: Students have no more than a combined 1-3 absences, tardies and/or dismissals, regardless of reason.

A medal presented to the 8th graders who have made the greatest progress in extracurricular activities and/or community endeavors. Sponsored by the Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias.

PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding commitment to academic achievement. To be eligible, students must earn a Grade Point Average between 90-100 and receive a recommendation from their teacher. As part of the criteria, recommendations have included activities in which the student demonstrates high motivation, initiative, integrity, intellectual depth, leadership qualities and/or exceptional judgment.

Presented to students who demonstrate good citizenship on a consistent basis.
