When Art and Sports Collide at SSCS

What do you get when you mix Art with Gym class? An abstract painting and some very messy students! That was the scene recently when Art teacher Jamie Wilber introduced SSCS elementary students to the world of action painting. Action painting is an expressionism art form where paint is thrown, dripped or splattered onto a canvas to create artwork. Famous for this technique was 20th century American artist Jackson Pollock who used unconventional tools like sticks and turkey basters to create dynamic, all-over compositions. In this case, SSCS students used different types of sports equipment like tennis balls, golf balls, softball balls, baseballs, footballs, basketball, volleyballs and pool noodles. They dipped these items into paint, then threw them, rolled them or hit them at the paper to create a master piece on canvas and on themselves! Take a look…
