Yasmin Issa
Congratulations to SSCS senior Yasmin Issa, one of two Schoharie County students chosen as 2025 DAR Good Citizens by their teachers and classmates. This contest is sponsored each year by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and locally by the Captain Christian Brown Chapter of Cobleskill. The students were judged on leadership, dependability, service, and patriotism, as well as contributions to others in their homes, schools, churches, and communities.
Yasmin is the daughter of Tareq and Sofia Issa of Sharon Springs. She has been an active member in several academic and leadership organizations, including Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, SAAD, Elevating Student Voices, and Youth as Leaders and has served as team captain of the girls’ varsity soccer team.
Yasmin has volunteered in several capacities within her community, such as the Sharon Springs Summer Recreation Program. She designed and led a youth soccer workshop series that taught young athletes the fundamentals of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Yasmin’s future plans are to attend college to become a licensed pharmacist and use those skills to serve her community through immunizations, personal counseling, and medication management.
Along with being selected as Good Citizen, Yasmin’s essay also captured first place in the 2025 DAR Scholarship Essay contest, “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It.”
Both Schoharie County Good Citizens and their families will be guests of honor at a luncheon provided by the Captain Christian Brown Chapter NSDAR on Saturday, December 6, at the Cobleskill United Methodist Church. The guest speaker will be Max Horning, Sharon Springs Music Teacher and Cobleskill-Richmondville School Board member, presenting a talk titled “…but you can choose where you live.”
