Maya Korona walks her Jersey cow

Congratulations to SSCS Freshman Maya Korona who was featured this fall by the New York FFA Association for her work in local FFA, advocating for the future of agriculture and as a standout student in Sharon Springs. Maya, who was elected SSCS FFA chapter President this school year, appeared in the State Association’s Facebook feature “Member Monday.” Take a look!

Member Monday with Maya Korona

Maya Korona is currently a freshman at Sharon Springs Central School District and serves as the Class of 2029 Vice President.  She is an active member in multiple clubs including the SSCS FFA Chapter (President), Spanish Club, Varsity Club, FBLA, SADD, and Schoharie County 4-H.

Maya also loves sports and enjoys playing basketball and soccer, both at school and on travel teams. Outside of school, Maya loves to work on her family’s dairy farm, Stone House Farm. She enjoys helping to care for their registered Jersey herd, assisting with chores and preparing her cows and calves for shows.

Her family also has a maple syrup business where you can find Maya giving farm tours on weekends, as well as working at their breakfast house and various farmer’s markets.

However, her true passion is showing her Jerseys. Maya invests a lot of her time and works hard all year to prepare her animals for shows throughout the summer. Maya is also working hard at improving her herd’s genetics by carefully selecting the bulls to use when breeding her jerseys, with a goal to improve their offspring. In FFA, Maya has competed in multiple competitions including Dairy Judging, Food Science, and Job Interview.

One of Maya’s biggest goals in life is to become a teacher – like her mom, SSCS’ Randi Korona – with animal photography as a side job! When she thinks of FFA, one word that comes to mind is dedication. She uses her own dedication to achieve her goals and strives to do better every day.
