SSCS seventh graders went on a field trip with teacher Rachel Ferreira to Stone House Farm in Sharon Springs on Feb. 3 to learn more about the maple syrup industry. As part of their focus on careers and life skills, this visit gave students a firsthand look at a successful career in maple production. The farm and its 5,000-tap maple syrup operation as well as the Sap House Restaurant have been run by the Everett family since 1964.

Students practiced making drop lines at school and then had the opportunity to install them and tap maple trees at the farm. They also received a tour of the sap house and learned about the syrup-making process. Thank you to Stone House Farm for a wonderful and educational visit!
