SSCS 7th graders hosted one of the “sweetest” learning projects of the school year this week. Middle schoolers in Rachel Ferreira’s CTE class competed in the 2026 New York State Agriculture in the Classroom Ice Cream Challenge. The Ice Cream Challenge allows students to develop their own ice cream recipe, identify their target audience, create marketing materials for their flavor combinations, and learn about the dairy processing industry in their community. They also get to compete against other schools for cash prizes.
The students came up with two main concoction this year called Lumberjack’s Choice and Chocoberry Swirl. On April 1, SSCS was invited to visit their ice cream displays, try their new flavors and vote for Best Flavor (Lumberjack’s Choice), Best Marketing Campaign (Chocoberry Swirl) and Most Original Slogan and Idea (Lumberjack’s Choice). A special thanks to Natalie Frank’s Advertising class for collaborating and creating fun and engaging posters to promote each group’s ice cream. The state will announce its winners in June.
