" I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of
incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and
   to incur my own abhorrence."

Text Box: I would like to introduce myself to you.  I am Russell Scimeca and I began as the school social worker for Sharon Springs Central School District in fall 2005.  I have many years of experience working with children and families.  Most of the time has been spent in various foster care settings.
I have worked as a social worker providing individual and family therapy to 12-18 year old males in a residential treatment center.  These youths were court ordered for treatment based on PINS (person in need of supervision), JD (juvenile delinquent) or abuse/neglect issues.
I have also worked as Clinical Supervisor of a foster home program which served children ages birth-21. There I supervised a team of caseworkers  who provided case management to 44 children residing in out-of-home foster care placements.  I also ran Life Skills Groups for teens aged 14-21.  In the groups, kids learned the requisite skills we all need to be competent, independent adults.
Now at SSCS, I am enjoying getting to know the students and families of the Sharon Community.  I work with students individually, in small groups as well as alongside their teachers to help them meet their educational goals and/or support their emotional health.
During the 2005-2006 school year, the T.B.D. program proved to be an asset to our teens who struggle to meet the demands of school and require some extra coaxing and coaching.  This year we have modified the program somewhat and have invited Mrs. Pinder to organize the classroom, provide the structure and offer the daily coaching and encouragement needed by the students.
Please visit my other web pages to learn more about the various programs I am involved with.
