Schoharie County Head Start Program

The Schoharie County Head Start Program is a federally funded program for children ages 3-5 and their families.Head Start addresses all areas of development – social, academic, physical and emotional, using the Creative Curriculum to teach through children’s play.  Parent / family involvement is an integral part of our program, including visits to review and plan children’s goals to helping with projects and activities at home and at school.

Our Sharon Springs classroom is located in the Sharon Springs School and is licensed for up to 18 children.  We have a Head Teacher, Assistant Teacher and Classroom Aide in the room and a Family Advocate who works with families on any goals they may have.  A bus is set up for stops each year in areas where more than one child can access it.

Children must have turned 3 years old by December 1 to be enrolled.  Recruitment is on-going with specific days set aside in the spring for all staff to complete the paperwork for children who will enter the program in the fall. Our classes run from Monday through Thursday during the school year, approximately following the school calendar.
